| Life as an Advanced Apprentice |
- The first 8 months of the Apprenticeship will be based between the Centre of Excellence and college, learning your trade skills and the underpinning knowledge required for your site placement.
- The following 28 months will be spent applying your skills in the workplace. You will become part of Doosan Babcock's Site Operational Team and subject to their normal working conditions, such as travelling and working away from home. You will be working shifts. Over 18 year olds have the option to work extended hours above the normal 38 hour week during peak periods. At the end of your training period, you will then be assessed for competence and, if successful, gain an NVQ level 3 in your chosen trade.
- During your training period at The Centre of Excellence Training Department, Tipton you will receive a travel allowance which will enable you to travel home every two to three weeks, depending on the programme. Any additional travel will be at the expense of the Apprentice. Whilst on site you will receive travel allowance once a month.
- Accommodation is normally in shared facilities or bed and breakfast establishments, whether you are working on site or attending training at Tipton or College.
- All accommodation is organised and paid for by Doosan Babcock, so you will live with your fellow Apprentices.
- You may be required to work to a shift pattern as needs dictate.
- You are assigned a dedicated qualified instructor who will progress you through your qualification. All Centre of Excellence Training Instructors are CRB checked, as are all Training Department staff based at the Centre of Excellence.
- You will be paid a weekly training allowance.
