Training & Development
You will have your own individual training plan, which will take into consideration your career aspirations, the needs of the business to undertake and complete projects, and the needs of the appropriate professional institute.

It consists of the following elements:

1. On-job training

2. Training courses, workshops and seminars
which are relevant to your discipline.

3. Training in additional skills,
including report writing skills, team-building, financial awareness and IT training, to help you develop a business and commercial awareness.

4. The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board's Supervisory Management Training & Development Scheme.
This leads to a professional management qualification, and consists of a series of 5 residential modules shown on the diagram below.

5. Mentoring
You will also be supported by a mentor who will assist you in your path to professional Chartership status with the relevant discipline institute.

6. Postgraduate Certificate in Power Plant Engineering (where relevant)

In conjunction with the University of Strathclyde we have developed an MSc in Power Plant Engineering. This Masters programme is the result of consultations with over twenty international companies involved in all aspects of Power Generation. The MSc in Power Plant Engineering is a unique course providing accelerated training and continuing professional development for those working in or wishing to work in the conventional or renewable power generation industry.

As a graduate in the engineering, construction, technology or research and development sectors of our business, you will undertake five modules from the MSc programme during the first two years on the graduate programme. Completion of the designated modules will allow you to obtain a Postgraduate Certificate in Power Plant Engineering, which will provide you with technical and academic background specific to our industry and support the qualification you have already achieved.

This course provides high quality, relevant postgraduate level training delivered in partnership with industry. Its modular nature allows for flexible study.

In addition to delivering relevant technical knowledge, the course also provides generic 'soft' skills necessary to make the most of that knowledge. Teaching and support is provided by the Faculty of Engineering from the University of Strathclyde and industrial partners and is overseen by an industrial advisory board.

Key points:
  • You will obtain an industry specific qualification to support the qualifications you have already achieved
  • The modules will be delivered in weekly blocks during which you will attend a number of lectures and tutorials at the University of Strathclyde
  • The course is run in partnership with experienced industrial practitioners
  • The modules focus on key technical, business and management skills
  • You have the option to continue your studies to a postgraduate Diploma or MSc on successful completion of the postgraduate certificate
  • The programme is managed by a team of industrialists and academics to ensure relevance
  • Studying for the Postgraduate Certificate meets the requirements of 'Further Learning' for those who have studied to BEng level and wish to become Chartered Engineers
